ขุน Khun (King)
เดินได้ 1 ช่อง ทุกทิศทาง — แพ้เมื่อถูกรุกจน
One square in any direction. Lose if checkmated.
เม็ด Met (Queen)
เดิน 1 ช่อง แนวทแยงเท่านั้น
One square diagonally only.
โคน Khon (Bishop)
เดิน 1 ช่อง แนวทแยงทั้งสี่ หรือ ตรงไปข้างหน้า
One square diagonally, or one square straight forward.
ม้า Ma (Knight)
เดินเป็นรูปตัว L เหมือนม้าสากล กระโดดข้ามหมากได้
Moves in an L-shape like a chess knight; jumps over pieces.
เรือ Ruea (Rook)
เดินแนวตรง ตั้งหรือนอน ไม่จำกัดระยะ
Any distance horizontally or vertically.
เบี้ย Bia (Pawn)
เดิน 1 ช่องตรงไปข้างหน้า กิน 1 ช่องแนวทแยงหน้า
One square straight forward; captures one square diagonally forward.
เบี้ยหงาย Bia Ngai (Promoted Bia)
เมื่อเบี้ยถึงแถวที่ 6 จะหงายเป็นเบี้ยหงาย เดินเหมือนเม็ด
A Bia reaching the 6th rank promotes and then moves like a Met.การหงายเบี้ย · Promotion
เบี้ยเริ่มต้นอยู่แถวที่ 3 เดินตรงไปข้างหน้าทีละช่อง เมื่อถึงแถวที่ 6 (ฝั่งตรงข้าม) จะ “หงาย” กลายเป็นเบี้ยหงาย ซึ่งเดินได้เหมือนเม็ด (ทแยง 1 ช่อง)
A Bia starts on the 3rd rank and promotes on reaching the 6th rank, after which it moves like a Met (one diagonal step).
การนับศักดิ์ · Counting (draw rule)
เมื่อฝ่ายที่ได้เปรียบเหลือกำลังไม่พอจะรุกจน จะเริ่ม “นับศักดิ์” ถ้ารุกจนไม่สำเร็จภายในจำนวนตาที่กำหนด เกมจะเสมอ มีสองแบบคือ นับกระดาน (board) และนับหมาก (piece) ระหว่างเล่น ตัวนับจะแสดงเป็นแถบบอกจำนวนตาให้เห็นเอง
When the stronger side can no longer force mate, a count begins; if checkmate isn't delivered within the allotted moves the game is a draw. There are two systems — board counting and piece counting — and the live count is shown as a banner during play.
